Sports College

What is a Sports College?

At Wyvern we use the expertise and skills in our PE faculty to improve the quality of teaching and learning across the whole school.

We are committed to becoming an excellent learning organisation. We aim to provide exciting and challenging opportunities for our pupils and the whole community right across the curriculum, but especially in PE and Sports. We believe that the attitudes and skills that we promote through PE and sports will help pupils throughout all aspects of their school life and beyond.

We have a well deserved reputation for competitive sport, with teams at all ages in the major games of rugby, hockey, netball, football, athletics, rounders and cricket. We also offer a wide range of enrichment activities. These include basketball, squash, tennis, skiing, break-dancing, golf and martial arts.

Finally, we have our own Outdoor Pursuits teacher who takes pupils rock climbing, abseiling, hill-walking, camping, orienteering to name but some. We plan to open our own climbing wall in the near future.

Our sports facilities are, naturally for a Sports College, of a very high standard. In addition to the gym, full size sports hall, full size all weather surface and fitness suite, we also have a new dance studio opened in 2004. In 2005 our Multi-Use Games Area will open to further enhance the range of sports that we can offer.
