Wyvern is celebrating another big increase in its exam results this year, up by 7% on 2007 and only 2% below the highest results ever in 2006.
Headteacher, Andrew Russell, said, “Following another year of hard work, sweat and tears, 70 students at Wyvern gained between 5 and 13 top grades. This is a reflection on the commitment and hard work of staff, students, parents and carers all working hard together. This is the third improvement in our results in the last four years and represents the ongoing journey of the school as it steadily improves.
Ashley Payne was our most successful student, gaining 7 A* grades, 6 A grades and a B plus he’s a National Gymnastics champion too! Another 23 students gained ten or more top grades in their subjects.
Over 75% of the group are now studying at college, joining a long line of students who have left us, been successful at college and are now at university. We have our first Oxford entrant this year!
Also, let’s not forget many other students in Year 11 who worked just as hard to reach their targets in the D to G range too. All students who were entered for exams have left with a qualification.
I am particularly please with our top performing subjects. Maths consistently performs well compared to national targets and is in the top 10% in the whole country for value added; also Art, Media Studies and Languages. I am very pleased with our outstanding PE and Dance BTEC Diploma results with five students gaining the new Distinction* grade which is equivalent to 4 A* grades at GCSE.
We have been set challenging targets for the coming year and we have every intention of meeting them. Our focus will remain on ensuring that every student aims to ‘be their best’ in all they do at the school.”
